Former President Jonathan had said he recalled an interview he had with TheCable in the build up to last year’s election where he made it clear that though he has his own flaws and weaknesses, yet he never considered Buhari a viable option Nigerians would opt for. However, things turned out otherwise as Nigerians made their choice at the poll.

He said, “I think Nigerians knew what they wanted. Before the
elections, I remember saying that I might not be perfect because there
is no perfect human being, but that Nigerians cannot afford to vote
Muhammadu Buhari as their next president. I also said they will be
making a costly mistake if they voted him to power. But he won the
election. Things may not be going well at the moment, but the least the
masses can do is to support the government so that things can get better
again.” He said.
As a recap to Jonathan’s response during the interview he had with TheCable before the last presidential election took place where he eventually lost, the former president was quoted as making the following statements:
“I don’t think Nigerians will make the mistake of voting for Buhari. Gen. Buhari, with due respect, is not the right option for Nigeria at this time. It is a gamble that is not worth taking.
“I may not be perfect as nobody is perfect. But I believe that come Saturday, the majority of Nigerian
voters will choose me as the best candidate to lead the nation forward.”
